Electrical Technical Officer (ETO)
Recommended Time In Role
This is a specialist position, and generally, ETOs transition into yachting from other maritime sectors. An ETO should stay in their role for as long as it is a suitable and rewarding position.
Mandatory Qualifications
To be eligible to be an Electrical Technical Officer, all candidates must hold STCW Basic Safety Training A- VI/I, as well as MCA ETO CoC .Vessels with high voltage may require the High Voltage Safety Management
STCW A-III/2 qualification.
Recommended Qualifications
It is recommended that Electrical Technical Officers have experience and qualifications in AV/IT. If entering this sector from commercial maritime, the IAMI GUEST
Introduction to yachts and yachting life, would be beneficial.
Recommended Experience
Typically ETO’s will have completed a cadetship or degree before being eligible to apply to the MCA for the ETO CoC. Not all vessels require an ETO position on board.
