Recommended Time In Role

Ideally, as a dual role, crew should stay in this position for one to two seasons before considering advancing their career. During this time, the individual can consider which of the two career paths they wish to progress or develop in.

Mandatory Qualifications

To be eligible to be a Cook/ Steward(ess) or Cook/Deckhand, all candidates must have STCW Basic Safety Training A-VI/I, Food Safety (Catering) Level 2.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Trained Chef (Culinary Certificate,
    Apprenticeship, Cookery School)
  • GUEST Introduction to Yacht Galley Operations for shore-side qualified chefs
  • Full driver’s license is expected

Recommended Experience

It is recommended to have practical experience in cooking, and creating menus and an awareness of different dietary requirements is recommended.

Experience as a shore-side Cook or Chef is also beneficial.

Notes

It is important to have a genuine interest and passion for cooking. Self-study, formal courses, and helping out in the galley are all ways to prove this.
