Second Steward/ess
Second In Charge Of Interior Department
Recommended Time In Role
Ideally, a Second Steward/ess should stay in their role for a minimum of four seasons (yacht size dependent) before considering advancing their career. A season includes time spent preparing for and with guests onboard. This is the length of time needed to perfect the skills to be a strong Second Steward/ess and the minimum amount of experience needed for more senior roles.
Mandatory Qualifications
To be eligible to be a Second Steward/ess, all candidates must have STCW Basic Safety Training A-VI/I. Food Safety in Catering Level 2 is also needed if serving or handling food.
Recommended Qualifications
The strongest candidates will also have completed the GUEST Advanced Hospitality Program (leading to the Yacht Senior Stew. CoC). The GUEST Foundation Leadership course may also prove beneficial.
Recommended Experience
Successful candidates will have a minimum of four seasons in a steward/ess role on yachts of similar or larger size. Alternately, candidates coming from smaller yachts may need additional management experience to be ready to step up.
